Abdulrahman Al-Sumait University (SUMAIT), based in Zanzibar, is a well-known university that developed from the University College of Education Zanzibar, which was established in 1998 by the Kuwait-based charitable group, Direct Aid. Over the years, the institution has developed into a hub of academic excellence dedicated to delivering high-quality education in many fields.

SUMAIT, via the Center for Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE), invites applications from adequately qualified, experienced, and motivated people to apply for the role of Nurse and Midwifery Tutor in support of its continuous growth. The university is looking to fill four (4) positions on a regular, full-time basis.


Job Summary

Educating and mentoring nursing and midwifery students will be mostly the responsibility of the Nurse and Midwifery Tutors. Student evaluation, curriculum creation, clinical supervision, and classroom teaching define this position. Tutors will guarantee that graduates are well-equipped for professional practice in healthcare settings by helping to close the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical nursing skills.

Through the creation of lesson plans, delivery of lectures, practical instruction, and student mentorship, the successful applicants will be expected to actively participate in institutional development and academic planning. They will answer straight to the Director of CPaCE and help to keep SUMAIT's dedication to outstanding health sciences training.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create and carry out assessment tools for both theoretical and practical nursing courses, lesson plans, and teaching resources.

    Based on authorized academic calendars, give lectures and run clinical training courses.

    Evaluate and track student performance via ongoing assessments, tests, and practical competency checks.

    Oversee students in clinical environments making sure they satisfy academic and professional criteria.

    Keep thorough attendance and academic records; write reports on student development.

    Advise, mentor, and assist students academically; counsel and handle student issues.

    Engage in purchase of clinical and teaching materials, institutional budget planning, and curriculum creation.

    Participate in institutional activities include staff meetings, panel discussions, departmental collaborations, and committee work.

    Assist new cohort orientation programs and student admissions.

    Make sure you follow rules set by the Ministry of Education and the Tanzania/Zanzibar Nurses and Midwives Council.

    Emphasizing patient safety, ethics, and professionalism, promote best practices in nursing education.

    Complete any other academic or administrative duties given by university leadership or the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates have to fulfill the following academic and professional requirements:

Minimum Academic Qualification: Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education plus Bachelor of Medical Education concentrating on nursing, together with a Bachelor of Medical Education.

Preferred Qualification: A Master's degree in Nursing and Midwifery or a closely related discipline.

Extra Certification: Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery, plus a valid Practicing License for Tutorship from the Tanzania/Zanzibar Nurses and Midwives Council.

Should be completely registered with the Tanzania/Zanzibar Nurses and Midwives Council and have a current practice license.

Must hold a Certificate of Registration from the Ministry of Education.

At least two (2) years of teaching experience in a respected health training school.

Good awareness of contemporary nursing education, clinical care, healthcare policy, and regulatory developments.

Good computer literacy and ability to make good use of online learning resources and instructional aids.

Good interpersonal, presenting, and communication abilities.

Willingness and compassion to guide students and handle various learning requirements.

Great problem-solving abilities and organization.


Required Competencies

  • Thorough knowledge of both theoretical and practical elements of nursing and midwifery.

    The capacity to convert difficult ideas into simple understandable content and good classroom management.

    Ability to cooperate with health institutions and academic teams.

    Commitment to creating an academically interesting and encouraging learning atmosphere.
