ABOUT US
Headquartered in Leuven, Belgium, Anheuser-Busch InBev SA/NV, often known as AB InBev, is a worldwide brewing and beverage corporation. Known as the largest brewer in the world, it was 72nd on the Forbes Global 2000 in 2023. Apart from its Belgian base, AB InBev runs offices in New York City and keeps regional headquarters in cities such São Paulo, London, St. Louis, Mexico City, Bremen, and Johannesburg, among other places. The firm runs about 630 beer brands spread over 150 nations.
InBev's purchase of the American firm Anheuser-Busch founded AB InBev. It is a publicly traded company with its main listing on the Euronext Brussels and subsidiary listings on the stock markets in Mexico City, Johannesburg, and New York.
The company's origins go back to Interbrew, which was founded in 1987 by combining Belgium's two largest breweries at the time, Artois and Piedboeuf. While the Piedboeuf brewery was founded in 1812, the Artois brewery, formerly known as Den Hoorn, goes back to 1366. Interbrew first concentrated on buying local Belgian brewers; by 1991, the firm started a second phase of growth into other markets. Its first overseas purchase occurred in Hungary. It bought Labatt Brewing Company, Canada's biggest brewer, in 1995; in 1999 it worked with Sun in Russia to create a joint venture.
Interbrew kept growing into Germany and the UK. It bought Bass and Whitbread in 2000, then Diebels and Beck's & Co. in 2001, the Gilde Group in 2002, and Spaten in 2003. Founded in 1873, Beck's & Co. is famous for making the world's best-selling German beer. Interbrew bought shares in the K.K. Brewery and Zhujiang Brewery, so increasing its footprint in China that same year. Until December 2000, the company stayed family-owned; then it started trading on the Euronext stock exchange in Brussels with an initial public offering.
Another important ingredient in AB InBev's creation is AmBev, or America Beverages. Founded in 1880, Antarctica and Brahma, Brazil's two largest brewers, merged to form AmBev in 1999. Headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil, AmBev is the largest beer firm by market value in Brazil and throughout the Southern Hemisphere. Operating in 18 countries across the Americas, AmBev makes a variety of products, including beers such Antarctica, Bogotá Beer Company, Brahma, Bohemia, and Stella Artois, as well as soft drinks like Guaraná Antarctica, Soda Antarctica, Sukita, and more recent releases like H2OH! and Guarah.
